Folding bikes are a great option for any city-dweller looking for a healthy mode of transportation.  These compact little bikes are just as easy and stable to use as their larger counterparts are, but when not in use can easily be folded up, usually in half, for those with limited storage space or those city folk who need to carry said bikes up several sets of stairs.  Before purchasing, like anything, it is a good idea to read a folding bikes review to find the best quality bike for you.  There are, however, a number of great options that you should consider straight away.

Schwinn has a name long associated with bikes that are the dreams of children everywhere.  Their new folding bikes are no exception and, in fact, can easily transfer into the dreams of adults everywhere.  Their models are consistently priced low for folding bikes, but their top selling 7-speed model leaves little more to be desired.  In addition to the basic amenities like city tires and front and rear brakes, most of the Schwinn models come with both front and rear fenders, giving them the hallmark look  all the best Schwinns have had since the 1950s.

For a higher class model, you really can’t go wrong with a Dahon.  In comparison to the $200 top price of many Schwinns, Dahons generally start at around $200 and range easily up to $600 or more.  The price, however, should not be a turn-off.  These bikes are worth that price, if not more.  For one, Dahon has a folding bike specifically designed for the needs of every rider, from mountain bikes to city bikes to bikes made specifically for riding on docks.  While the low-end models are basic no-frills bikes, the more expensive ones can have up to 24 speeds.  They have classical frames while boasting of the ability to be folded down in a mere fifteen seconds.  While the cheapest model can run a bit heavy, the higher end titanium models are lightweight for practical use.  In particular, the Dahon Mariner receives consistently high folding bike reviews, in particular for its ease in folding. 

The Dahon Espresso is another with some of the best folding bike reviews.  One of the best features of the Espresso is its large tires, which at twenty-six inches, are far larger than the small sixteen inch wheels that are the norm on other bikes.  These large wheels are also available on their folding mountain bikes.

Shimano is another great brand with very reliable bikes and consistently high folding bike reviews.  Shimanos come in a range of prices, but even their cheapest model, the 20″ Shimano 6 speed, is highly rated.  Users frequently laud the fact that it comes nearly fully assembled from the manufacturer (in comparison to the long assembly required for most other bikes), while mentioning its sturdy reliability.  Its only downfall is that, at thirty pounds, it’s a bit heavier than most bikes.  For the price, however, this bike is a great deal.

These three brands all have long traditions of producing bikes that can withstand all sorts of practical usage.  Any folding bikes review should mention these particular brands for their high levels of craftsmanship and reliability.  As for deciding between these, it is a good idea to look into how much money you are willing to invest for the quality you need.  Fortunately, with these great choices, there is not much place to go wrong.
